Class Descriptions

The APJCC Preschool is a developmental, child centered, play based school (as stated in our Developmental Philosophy Statement included in this packet).

Teaching Staff
Our teachers and assistant teachers have credentials and or training in Early Childhood Education and participate in ongoing, on site ECE workshops and staff meetings as well as attending professional conferences. Members of the preschool staff are dedicated to and believe in the quality of our school. Our staff goal is to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for all of the preschool children while recognizing children for their individuality.  

Barvazim (Ducks) and Keshet (Rainbow)
Toddlers at least 18 months old at the start of this school year
Our Barvazim and Keshet program is designed to provide our youngest children a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which to explore and grow.  Toddlers will be given loving attention from our caring staff.  Older children in this group will be placed in the Keshet class.  Maximum child/teacher ratio is 4:1. This class is 5, 3 or 2 days per week, mornings (8:30am-12:00noon) or full day.

Dubonim (Teddy Bears) & Shemesh (Sun)
Children aged 24 months by September 1, 2012
Children in our Dubonim, Keshet and Shemesh program will have the opportunity to experience a variety of developmentally stimulating activities while at the same time learning to interact with their peers and teachers. Younger children in this group may be placed in our Transitional 2’s, Keshet class.  Maximum child/teacher ratio is 6:1.  These classes are 2, 3 or 5 mornings per week (8:30-12:00).

Parparim (Butterflies), Kochavim (Stars) and Tzabim (Turtles)
Children aged 3 by September 1, 2012
Children in our Parparim, Kochavim and Tzabim program will be involved in activities that promote their social skills, gross & fine motor skills and self-help skills.  Maximum child/teacher ratio is 8:1.  These classes are 3 or 5 mornings per week (8:30am-12:00noon).

Perach (Flower) & D’vorim (Bees)
Children aged 4 by October 1, 2012
Our Perach & D’vorim program offers activities designed to promote self-confidence, tune gross & fine motor skills and help articulate social, self help & listening skills for pre-K aged children. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 9:1.  These classes meet 5 mornings per week. (8:30am-12:00noon)

Kofico’s Ma’avar (Monkey’s Passage)
Children aged 4 by July 1, 2012, this birth date may be earlier or we may accept younger children depending on demand for enrollment in this particular class
Our extended day pre-K program offers the same quality activities as our 4-year-old half-day program with additional time for projects in depth. Both 4- year- old programs are designed to stimulate and enhance the developmental growth of the 4-year-old child.  Younger children in this group may be placed in D’vorim or Perach.   Maximum child/teacher ratio is 9:1.  This class is 5 extended mornings per week (8:30am to 1:30pm).

Kif Kef (Extra Fun)
Our Kif Kef program offers the same quality program meeting the needs of families for an extended day.  Kif Kef is available from 7:30-8:30am and 12:00noon-6:00pm. Children attending Kif Kef must also be enrolled in our Shemesh, Dubonim, Parparim, Kochavim, Tzabim, D’vorim, Perach or Ma’avar classes.  Please see the Kif Kef Fact Sheet and Needs Survey included in this packet for more information.

The Preschool Director and teachers may make class placement exceptions for children, if they determine that the exception is developmentally appropriate.
